Work is progressing on the Tampere railway station area project

Work is currently underway on the site of the Tampere railway station area Alliance to install the retaining walls of the vehicle bridge. The work is being carried out on the vehicle bridge, where traffic and pedestrians are in the immediate vicinity of the site. This central location has been taken into account when designing the safety of the works.

In the current phase of the work, the piles will be installed to support the pontoon wall. The wall will be anchored using piles and rock anchors. The retaining wall will allow safe excavation, as a new and wider bridge will be built next to the retaining wall.

The retaining wall will be constructed using drill-through equipment due to the fractured rock. First, the anchor protection tubes will be welded open, then the tubes will be drilled into the rock. Then a precise rock hole is drilled through the borehole with a drill-through rig. The next step is the installation of the anchors, which are soldered into the rock with cement. After the cement has dried for about a week, the anchors are test-weighed and tensioned with a giant jack to ensure that the wall remains firmly in place. Before tensioning the anchors, a HE300B support beam is installed in the wall by welding. The anchors are installed in every other pile, and the drilling is done at a 45 degree angle.

The retaining walls for this phase will be ready in about two weeks. At the same time, we will also be able to do the jet grouting on the Independence Street side, as the stairs to the Railway Yard have been demolished.
